What I did:

I tried living with the model, but I wasn’t happy with it. There was too much of a disconnect between the eyes and the rest of the head. A meeting with my tutor confirmed what I had been thinking. He also pointed out a couple of clothing edges that could be made softer.

Head:
I increased the area of the iris and pupil part of the eyes; removed a couple of rows from the topology of the lower eyelids; tried a different approach for the eyelashes to hopefully make them closer in style to the hair and eyebrows. Reshaped the ears.
Applied a new material to the corners of the eyes and the lips.

Clothing:
Applied the modifiers and added loop cuts to the edges of the jacket cuffs, lapel, hem and trouser hems, pulling them out slightly to give a more rounded edge; applied the modifiers to the shirt and tie.

It’s still not perfect, but I am happier with it – it’s heading in the right direction. I may very well end up modelling more.

What I learned:

If you’re questioning whether something is looking right or not, chances are it isn’t. Take a beat, walk away, work on something else, sleep on it, leave it a day or two if you have that luxury, then look again with fresh eyes.

Next:

Still body rigging! I plan to use Rigify. Once the body rig is done, I will take a look at facial controls.
