What I did:

Carried on working through the Udemy course and I’m making good progress. I’ve completed 43 out of the 83 lectures, so I’m just over half way through.

I’ve got my base character mostly modelled – John in his late-30s is taking shape. He’s not quite finished yet; I still need to create eyelids and refine his face, plus his hair could do with more work, but the main body is done. It’s great to finally see him coming together after all the planning and prep.

What I learned:

I’m still picking up new tricks and shortcuts from the course – I thought I knew a lot already! It’s reassuring to know that my decision to follow a full course was a good one – I’m learning a solid new (to me) workflow and feel more confident about modelling.

The character topology is clean and will hopefully deform well when I get to rigging.

Next:

Next up is clothing. John should start looking more like the 1970s era character I’m aiming for – big collar, kipper tie, and flared trousers. I also need to finish off the eyelids and do a bit more work on his face and hair. Once that’s done, I’ll be moving into materials and texturing, followed by rigging – still a fair way to go!
